SHEA BUTTER FROM MALI
Together with Haus der Hoffnung e.V. and with the support of the German federal government via SEQUA, we set up a shea butter production facility in Mali in 2011. We also built our own laboratory and a training center there. With the project, we ensured a reliable source of income, an education and fixed supply contract for the families living there. Alongside product-related courses such as hygiene, health, an anti-AIDS campaign, certification and quality assurance, a literacy campaign took place in eight villages. Unfortunately, the project had to be terminated due to the conflicts in Mali because on-site project supervision is not possible due to travel warnings. However, the women there learned to cultivate organic vegetables and sell them at markets. They also received health training on a regular basis. We remain in contact with the village community and Haus der Hoffnung and product a body cream for the organization. The proceeds from its sale are being collected for a girls’ center.

Organic aloe vera is used in many of our products. As part of the project by Florida Food Productions, we assured Mexican farmers a fair, reliable livelihood and supported their continuing education. The project received the “Fair for Life” certificate, meaning that the raw materials we used underwent continuous inspection. It ensured compliance with rigorous social, fair trade and environmental standards. Due to the drug cartels, we did not have the opportunity to visit and supervise the project on site. We now procure our organic aloe vera from a social and ecological project in Guatemala.
