Since most people’s eye contour area is very sensitive, we always recommend using products specifically for the eyes. The skin around the eyes is five times thinner than the rest of the skin on your face. It requires finer active ingredients that are harmonized precisely for its properties. Our eye creams also have a special texture that prevents them from causing burning or irritation to sensitive skin.

FAQ – Advice
Can I use my face cream for the eye contour area instead of an eye cream?
My skin reacts to my product – what should I do?
Our skin needs around 3 to 6 weeks to adjust to a new care product. That is why we recommend waiting several weeks before looking for initial results.
But if your skin seems red and irritated, stop using the product because your skin is probably having an allergic reaction to one or more ingredients. Observe whether or not the redness and irritation disappears in the course of a week. If not, consult a dermatologist.

How do I know what skin type I have?
Take a close look at your skin and observe how it feels and behaves. Use the characteristics you observe to assign yourself to a skin type:
- Normal skin: This skin type has fine pores, is relatively insensitive to external influences, and is not to oily or dry.
- Dry skin: Your skin has patches of dry, sometimes chapped, skin.
- Oily or acne-prone skin: Your skin is shiny and blemishes (blackheads and pimples) regularly appear on your face.
- Combination skin: You have a shiny T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and blemishes (blackheads and pimples) may appear there. Your cheeks tend to be dry.
- Dehydrated skin: Your skin is tight and already has wrinkles caused by dryness.
- Sensitive/allergy-prone skin. Your skin is characterized by redness and reacts sensitively to ingredients in cosmetics or environmental influences such as the weather. It is tight and has dry patches.
How do I know whether or not I have sensitive skin?
If your skin reacts strongly to external influences, it is “sensitive.” The influences could be sunshine or cold, hair removal, or contact with cleaning agents, cosmetics and other substances. The skin experiences the irritation as being very strong and reacts with redness, itching, burning, a rash or inflammation.
Which sun protection product works with my skin type?
Use the following overview to find the sun protection product that is suitable for you:
- Sun cream: Sun cream has a rich texture and is especially suitable for normal to dry skin.
- Sun spray: Sun spray is suitable for all skin types. The spray texture is refreshingly light. Our sun sprays are absorbed immediately and do not leave the skin with a sticky film.
- Sun fluid: Sun fluids are most suitable for oily or acne-prone skin, combination skin and sensitive skin. Thanks to their light texture, they are also recommended for skin prone to sun allergies or sun-induced rash.
Which SPF should I use?
Regardless of whether you’d like to use a cream, spray or fluid, several factors must be considered when selecting the proper sun protection factor (SPF).
- Light type: Each light type has a specific self-protection time. For example, people with very light skin can only remain in the sun for 5 minutes without turning red, while brown skin can protect itself against UV radiation for up to 40 minutes.
- Latitude: The closer you are to the equator, the more intense the UV radiation and the higher the SPF you should select.
- Angle of the sun: UV radiation is more intense at midday than it is in the morning or evening.
- Altitude of location: The higher the altitude, the greater the intensity of UV radiation. That is why in mountainous regions, you need greater sun protection.
- Cloudiness: When the sky is covered with clouds, UV radiation is weaker than when the sky is clear. But do not underestimate UV intensity and the risk of sunburn when it is partly cloudy. UVA radiation is usually just as intense.
- Planned exposure to the sun: If you plan to remain in the sun for a long time, apply a product with a high SPF regardless of your light type.

When do I need to use a serum?
You can use a serum as a supplement to your day or night cream. Apply it after cleaning your face and before the cream.
There are also special serums for the eye contour area that you can apply to supplement your eye cream.
Serums contain active ingredients in higher concentrations than in creams. For example, they add an extra portion of moisture or support smoothing or firming. Ideally serums and creams are harmonized with each other or belong to the same systematic care series. In those cases, they can both optimally unfold their full effect.

Why should I use a toner?
Toner is particularly useful for young skin, oily or acne-prone skin, or combination skin – as a care step before applying cream.
A toner suitable for these skin types has an anti-bacterial, calming and soothing effect. It enables the skin to find its natural balance. There are also toners that add intense moisture to dry skin or help to relax and strengthen sensitive skin.

Do the products contain alcohol and if so, is it harmful or does it dry out the skin?
We use alcohol in some of our products, but of course only in formulations for skin types that are compatible with the ingredient. Alcohol is a common ingredient in natural cosmetics as it has preserving properties. Alcohol also acts as a solvent for extracts and active ingredients. It has a refreshing, toning and disinfecting effect on the skin.
The alcohol that we use is obtained from starchy or sugary plants through fermentation. It is pure potable alcohol (ethyl alcohol) and therefore complies with food standards.
On the list of ingredients, you will find it under the name “ALCOHOL.” The alcohol we use is denatured at the BÖRLIND production location under official supervision. It is denatured with the help of natural ingredients such as perfume oils. The process ensures that the alcohol is no longer fit for human consumption.
The concentration of alcohol in ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND products is so low that it is harmless when used on the skin as intended. All ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND products are tested by independent institutes. We have their efficacy and compatibility confirmed scientifically.
